Welcome to rainy Boston! I am a 5th-year PhD student, and this will be my first time participating in the Harvard-ENS exchange programme. Hailing from Britain, researching in India and residing in South Boston, I am often “just arriving” or “just leaving”, usually with a new tidbit of research to share. My dissertation looks at the establishment of British-built ‘native’ lunatic asylums in C19 India to show how local communities often appropriated colonial infrastructure for their own agendas. I am very interested in the legacies of empires past, and very communicative (read: loud!) about pedagogy in the classrooms of today. I look forward to meeting all of you and learning about your own projects during the next two weeks.
